Woolie Pets

In my spare time I sculpt wool horses using a process called needle felting. The gallery below features some samples of my work. If you are interesting, please contact me for pricing. Custom orders are available.

Felting is the oldest form of fabric production and predates spinning, weaving and knitting. Wool that has been graded, sorted, washed, combed and dyed to make roving is used to make needle felted creations. Felting needles are made from carbon and steel and are used to sculpt the processed wool. The barbs along the shaft of the needle enable it to "grab" the individual wool fibers and pull them through to bond with the adjoining fibers which felts the wool into a firm mass. Using various techniques, the artist is able to join felted parts together into a finished piece.
